Last week I was complaining that my Philips Avent Isis manual breast pump gave me problem. While pumping, the white star valve will popped out from its position and that really destroys my mood to pump. Time is wasted on fixing the pump’s valve and the quantity of expressed breast milk also reduced drastically. I was lucky that this valve was the old valve I have been using since I have Kylie. I have been using it for 3 years (for Kylie, Kylin and now Kyson).

When hubby bought the pump years ago, I remembered seeing a spare valve. So I changed the valve and was so happy with the results. No more “POP!” from the pump and no more “ARGHHH!” and “$%^*#” from me. I can also press the handle down with ease and no more worries.

…I gave birth to Kyson. On 11 Oct, a day after the perfect ten of 10.10.10, I stained the toilet paper with pinkish red color. I let out a deep sigh and thought to myself, “My menses is coming. No more pad free until menopause”. I love the thought of having no menses throughout the 1 year and 19 days. In fact, this is the longest period free I had. My period came back much earlier when I was breastfeeding Kylie and Kylin.

I was hoping that my menstrual period will only be back after 2 years of breastfeeding Kyson. But I guess I have to face the fact now.

My manual Avent breast pump is acting up on me lately. I have been using this manual breast pump since I had my #1 girl and have been serving me diligently until 2 weeks ago. For the past 2 weeks, the valve will pop out from its position whenever the suction is tight. You need the suction to be tight in order to pump the milk out but I cannot press the handle too far down. It will “pop” out and then I have to dismantle the whole unit to fix the valve back into its position. At first, it was one to two times per pumping session I had to endure with this situation. But now, it is about 6-8 times per pumping session. Have you had this kinda experience? It is messy and frustrating, as my time is wasted on fixing the valve. What I dislike most is when I am having milk letdown and pops it goes the valve. Milk and time is wasted. Then I have to wait for the next letdown to collect at least 8 ounces of milk.

When I was pregnant with Kyson, I brought Kylie to music classes and coached Kylie every week. Only in the third trimester, I stopped accompanying Kylie to music classes. Hubby took over the job of fetching Kylie to and fro. However, I am still the one overseeing Kylie, making sure she practices playing on the keyboard once every week.

Now that Kyson is 1 year old, he is capable of doing few things that I didn’t see with his 2 elder sisters. When he hears any music (as young as 9 months old), he will stop whatever he is doing, search for the sound and then smile. Now that he is bigger (1 year old), he will crawl nearer to the radio or tv, shake his legs (at times), shake his body (at times too) or claps his hands. And when the music ends, he will “communicate” with us by saying “err…. errr…..” and pointing to the radio. That is his way of telling me that he wants to continue listening.
