Last Sunday was Kylie’s birthday. She was very happy the moment she woke up. She sang and hummed few songs. She came out to the garden and greeted me “Good Morning”. I immediately wished her “Happy Birthday” and stopped my gardening. My pots and plants can wait. I washed my hands cleaned and prepared breakfast for the birthday girl.

We had our lunch very early at home and we went out to Cheras Jusco.

We had lots of shopping to do. We had to buy balloons, birthday cake and some clothes for us.

After shopping, I took her to the arcade. I asked her what she wanted to play and after looking around, she said, “nothing”.

Huh? Nothing? How can it be nothing? I was worried as kids would love to play all these games and I kept on encouraging her to choose at least one game to play. And after lingering around there for almost 15 minutes, she finally saw this game behind her that gave out sweets if you can scoop the sweets out using the crane’s arm. I played together with her and she was so happy that 8 packets of sweets came out.

What’s little Kylin up to then? 

She was enjoying the merry-go-round again and again. She kept on pointing to the horse and demanded to go there.

Then we bought a cake for Kylie before heading home. It was almost 5.30pm when we reached home. We quickly decorated the house with balloons, waited for relatives to come over and ate dinner. Kylie was the first to finish her dinner when normally she was the last to finish her rice. Then she waited patiently for us to finish our dinner while she watched her favorite Winnie the Pooh.

After dinner, we celebrated her birthday. 4 years old already. Time really flies.

Her height = 104.5 cm
Her weight = 17 kg

Back dated post. These photos were taken 2 weeks ago. We went down south to Seremban using the trunk road and on the way back home, we stopped at an orchid farm and bought few pots of orchid flowers.

This is Little Kylin, wearing my 30++ years old dress. My mom kept this dress for her grand daughters and this dress is still beautiful after so many years. Kylie have worn this dress before too.

I can’t even take Kylie for a swim in the evening, as Kylin was like Uhu gluing to us. She wanted us to carry her and walked around the house non-stop. We can’t even sit on the sofa to relax. She will scream and cry and hit us hard on our face. What to do! She knows she is a “little princess” when she is sick and we will obey all her demands.

Hubby called the credit card company to ask them to waive the 1.80 and also to ask further how they derived the “out of no where” finance charges. They told hubby that was because of the Shell Purchase transaction in the month of July and we didn’t pay to contra the figure. “Why should we be paying?”, hubby asked the customer care service when they should be taking the Rebate earned from Shell to contra with the Shell Purchase transaction? The customer care said that that was the government policy to charge customer 18% per annum on the unpaid transaction and the rebate redeemed was not treated as payment. Hubby said that they should treat the “Rebate redeemed” as part of payment and should not expect customer to pay them cash.  

This is what we eat for breakfast five days in a week. Only during weekends, our breakfast is NOT bread. We needed “time off” from eating bread. Darn bored if eats bread for breakfast everyday.

Bread making has been my alternate night routine. The timer is set and the breadmaker will start kneading in the wee hours the next day. Then I will have fresh homemade bread early next morning.

I have tried many varieties of bread and I find it easier to make wholemeal bread and healthier to eat too.

Here’s the recipe.

200 ml of water
70 ml of hot water
25 g of brown sugar
1 tsp of salt
50 g of butter
2 cups of high protein flour
2 cups of wholemeal wheat flour
3 tsp of yeast

When Little Kylin was down with HFMD, this was what Kylie was up to on late Sunday evening. Her neighbor rode on her red bicycle and she was the pillion rider. They played for almost one hour and they had great fun together. Even though they are neighbors, they hardly mingle together, as they hardly see one another. I do feel guilty but what can I do if they hardly come out to play.

I do really hope they will get together more often rather than once in a blue moon. This fun cycling moment was their first gathering. They did get together long time ago, they played with toys, but they never had so much fun like this.

They took turns to ride on the bike and Kylie had difficulty pedaling the pedal as the Kor Kor (the older boy) was much heavier than her.

What really bothered me was what Kylie said to me before she went to bed that night. She said, “Next time don’t let Kor Kor and Che Che (the older girl) come.” When I asked her why she didn’t want them to come over, she said, “Because I cannot ride my bicycle.”

What happened was there were three kids with only two bicycles. Kylie didn’t get to cycle much as she doesn’t have the energy to pedal when the boy sat behind her. So, basically she had to be the pillion rider.

What would you tell your kids if they said this to you?

I said to her that she should welcome her neighbors and they should be playing or riding the bicycle together. They should take turns more often and if she wanted to ride her bicycle, she should tell her friends rather than just keeping quiet. I hope I am teaching her enough. Last Thursday evening, Little Kylin was down with high fever. My sister-in-law called us when we were on our way home from work. We took her to the nearest clinic immediately.

I suspected hand, foot and mouth disease, as Kylie caught the Coxsackie virus from her preschool a week ago. Kylie had one ulcer on the right of her tongue and few blister-like rashes on her hands and foot. No fever for Kylie.

Last year, around the same month, Kylie caught the virus from her preschool too and had one day mild fever. She was off from preschool for a week. Luckily we separated Kylie from Kylin, and only Kylie had to suffer a little. Else, it would be very dangerous for Kylin, only a few months old baby then, to be down with hand, foot and mouth disease.

But things were different for Kylin this time. It was difficult to separate the two girls. They love to play together and eventually Kylin was sick.

Even though Kylin caught the same virus from her sister, she had more blister-like rashes on her hands, foot and buttocks. She had three mouth ulcers on the tip of her tongue and a big ulcer on her gums.

Kylin had high fever for four days and she wouldn’t drink or eat. The only fluid she took was glucose drink for two days during the weekends. She refused to drink milk or any food. Not even water.

On the fifth day, her fever was mild and I hope by tomorrow, she would recover from her fever. Else, she had to do blood test. I hope it won’t be dengue fever cum HFMD.

Have you ever checked and calculated your credit card bills? Did you look at the details? Have you ever calculated your finance charges? I think you better calculate every month or at least take the effort of calculating it today after reading this. You may be paying or donating blindly.

Last month, July 2008, I was shocked to see a finance charge of NINE cents on hubby’s credit card statement (see Balance brought forward on the first line). Why was I shocked? I was shocked because we didn’t owe them any money and we didn’t charge or swipe the card to make any purchases. Why was there a finance charge of 9 cents then?

Hubby called the credit card company, lodge a complaint and the NINE cents finance charges was waived in August’s statement (see Payments & Credits on the second line). [Actually not worth calling in to waive as his call charges to the credit card company costs more than NINE cents.]  

Then the same thing happened again for the month of August. No purchases within the period (see Total Purchases, Shell Purchase and Other Spend on the third, fourth & fifth line) and no Cash Advances (see Cash Advances on the sixth line).

But this time hubby was charged 1.80 (see Finance Charges on the last line). This is too much already. How on earth they come out with 1.80 finance charges when we owe them nothing? How? How? How?

Zero expenses x 18% per annum = 1.80 per month? Seriously something is wrong somewhere. Any figures you take and times it with zero equals ZERO, right?

Take out your credit card bills, take out your calculator and start calculating now. Don’t ever think you don’t know how to calculate. You know.

I felt like I have been “robbed” openly. Sorry to say this to this particular credit card company (I’m sure some of you may have guessed which company after looking carefully at the details above) but this is what I felt.

I almost give up and wanted to apply for the wireless broadband today. Thank goodness the connection is back to normal after waiting for half a month.

A colleague, ex-colleague now, migrated to New York, USA, together with his wife and kids. We called him KK and we had a great farewell tea party for him in the office on his last working day (end of July) with us.

All of us bid goodbye to him and quite a number of people, including me, had red watery eyes, when we stood at the exit door singing Cantonese “friendship” song to him. I couldn’t control myself but to cry a little for I will be having one lesser friend cheering me and telling funny jokes to make me laugh.

I would definitely miss the time you bought me “ice-cream potong” and THANKS for sharing and caring when my mother-in-law was battling with breast cancer more than a year ago.

Wish I will be meeting you again, hopefully in New York, when my Vegas vacations dream comes true.

Keeping my house save for Little Kylin to walk and explore will be my top most priority this weekend. It has been ages since I last checked all the furniture, toys, drawers etc for sharp objects or any dangerous items in the house within her reach. I had a fright of my life yesterday when I saw what Kylin played. Hubby had unintentionally left the storeroom’s door ajar. I was at the kitchen and hubby was upstairs bathing. Little Kylin saw the storeroom’s door ajar and went inside the storeroom. She played with daddy’s toolbox, moth traps and the room was in a mess when I found her hiding inside the dar room. Luckliy she didn’t injure or eat any of those things.

Lately, a stray cat greeted us daily in the evening. It would wait, outside of Ku Che’s house main door, for us to return from work. It would not budge when were shooed away and had conveniently made the corner of the porch as its home. What irritated me most was hubby buying all-in-one pet supplements without my knowledge and had been feeding the thin cat without my knowledge for almost a month now. How could De’Little Ones or I miss the fun of feeding the cat? We could have adopted, cleaned and fed the cat rather than calling the cat - a stray cat. Now I know why the cat loves Ku Che’s house and will not go away.

When we didn’t own a computer, we worked hard to own one. Then when we had a desktop computer at home, we fought who should be sitting in front of the monitor and had the privilege of surfing the net. We fought only during weekends and not during weekdays because we were too tired during weekdays. All we wanted to do was to sleep after returning from work. Then when we were recommended a best buy laptop from a colleague, we immediately bought one. We thought two computers would be enough but we were wrong. Instead of two people fighting, now four people fought when only two computers were available.

Little Kylie and Kylin would be fighting each other and both wanted the laptop and not the desktop. Why both wanted the laptop? I had no idea. Little Kylin would hit her elder sister, Kylie, and then both of them would cry. Little Kylin would definitely lost the fight and the seat to her elder sister and then Kylin would be crying and running towards me for help. What should I do? How to be fair to both of them? Both of them wanted only the laptop. What I did was distract Kylin by taking her out for a walk and let the elder played with the laptop.

… a Hello Kitty bread. I couldn’t wait to buy the ingredients to make cookies, so the homemade bread was what I used. You can’t see the texture clearly from the picture above but they are really clear and cute on the bread itself.

Kylie, my eldest daughter, had been cutting her Hello Kitty bread everyday early in the morning and took them to preschool for breakfast. It was a big change on her. Before I had the mould, I could hardly get her to eat the bread I made. Now, she asked for bread everyday in the morning. I wonder how long this will last.

Reading my ex-housemate’s blog, Eleen, brought back lots of sweet memories to me. We went to the same school in Penang but we were in different classes. Our circle of friends were different and I knew very little of her. Our friendship started only when we did our degree in the same University, took the same course, and attended many subjects together. We were living under the same roof for two and a half years. That was when I knew her better in person.

We rented a low cost apartment with two bedrooms, one store room and two bathrooms. I shared the master bedroom with Hee Hee, a teacher furthering her studies in the same University, while Eleen, converted the 30 square feet store room to be her faithful bedroom. We cooked, we studied, we partied, we stayed up late etc. We had no bed. We lay our mattresses on the floor and we had good times watching movies on our computers together. I really enjoyed my life there except the final semester, where we had to complete our theses. 

Final year thesis was a real test to me while you took it easily and passed with flying colors. I had Hee Hee helping me with my dissertation, while you did it without much help. I almost lost my research papers and writing. The file saved in my computer cannot be opened few weeks before the due date and thank goodness I had a copy saved into diskette, even though it was not the latest. I just had to redo a little. Just a thought. If you lost all your work and the submission date was just two weeks more, would you buy essay or strived to do it all over again?
